Dauphin Island Family Portraits Rainy Evening
I left my home two hours before the session time and the radar looked good. Storms were in the area but the long range forecast showed they would clear by the time of the session. I arrived on the island about 45 minutes before the session and the storm decided to camp out. We kept watching the radar and it looked like there would be maybe a 15 minute window where it wasn’t raining. I gave the family the option of trying the next day, cancelling the session, or making the best of the situation. They decided to make the best of it if we got an opportunity. Around 7:30 it stopped raining so we made a mad dash to the beach. I did my best to cram a one hour session into 30 minutes. Since all the children were toddlers I just did not have time to spend on individual portraits of the kids. Because the session was cut short I gave them a discount and gave them the mini-session price.
This was a situation I had to use my portable studio lighting. You can see samples of how the setting actually looked. We had to make do with the conditions given to us and the family was very understanding and actually had fun. They said they have “Griswald” vacations so why would family portraits be different?
