Family Reunion at Martinique on the Gulf

This was a large family reunion session at Martinique on the Gulf in Fort Morgan, Alabama. We didn’t have the best of conditions for this session as we had gloomy looking skies in the background. I wish I could order up nice bright skies but the beach decides what conditions we have. What I can control is the lighting so I used my portable studio lights. There is one benefit of overcast skies however and that is the softness of the light makes for less stress and squinting on the eyes. It was relatively crowded on the beach at the time of the shoot so we had to find some areas that had fewer people in the background. I typically like to shoot at more natural areas less crowded but having the portrait session at Martinique was much more convenient for this family. By the end of the session there were less people on the beach and we were able to get some very dramatic looking portraits in the surf.
